The Love Birds provided a spectacularly colourful start to the official launch of the Pleasance programme at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe this weekend.
On Saturday morning, the Love Birds company – barnstorming their way through a special rendition of “Tinpanorama”, “Crunchy Crackers” and the “Love Birds” theme song – opened the Pleasance Gala Launch, which was hosted by comedian Hal Cruttenden (who, coincidentally, also shares the daily bill in the same venue as the Birds, Pleasance Two) at the 750-seat Pleasance Grand in Edinburgh. In preparation for the Gala appearance, the Love Birds put in a particularly long day on Friday. Twelve hours after their usual 12.35pm performance at Pleasance Two, they paid a late-night visit to Pleasance Grand for a technical rehearsal that started at 12.35am. Director Stewart Nicholls worked with the company to re-stage the dance numbers for the most larger Grand stage.
