Robert J Sherman pens new ‘Disneyana’ Theme: 7 things you need to know

Disneyana is more than Disney collectables: the non-profit Disneyana Fan Club is dedicated to sharing the rich legacy of Walt Disney

Today sees the release of “Disneyana”, the new official theme song of the Disneyana Fan Club. Here are 7 essential things that you should know about it – have a listen too and watch out in the next few days for the song’s official video…

  1. On 16 July 2015, Robert J. Sherman debuted a new song he wrote entitled, “Disneyana!” to the Disneyana Fan Club in Anaheim California.  The song was voted the club’s “Official Theme Song” by their board of management.

  2. This marks the first time Sherman has written a Disney or Disney-related song, making him the first second-generation Sherman songwriter to do so.  Sherman’s father and uncle are and were the famous Sherman Brothers, Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, respectively), who wrote such notable Disney song scores as Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh.  Robert B. and Richard M. were featured characters in the 2013 feature motion picture Saving Mr Banks (starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson) about the making of the 1964 Classic Disney movie Mary Poppins.

  3. Robert J. Sherman’s new musical Love Birds is currently in rehearsals in London, preparing for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. (Hey, you know THAT – you’re on our site, clever reader!)

Disneyana_copyright-logosmall“Disneyana! was recorded last month in Orlando, Florida and features “The Liberty Voices”, an a cappella singing group comprised of Disney cast members who perform daily at the American Adventure Pavillion at EPCOT Center under the group name, “The Voices of Liberty”.  “The Voices of Liberty” have been a permanent fixture of EPCOT since the theme park’s opening in 1982.  The music for “Disneyana!” was arranged and supervised by Orlando-based music director, Jamey Ray.  Several additional vocal and instrumental arrangements of the song have been created by Ray as well, including a Barbershop Quartet version, used to premiere the song in Anaheim last week.  Various recordings and videos are now available on youtube.  The song will be available on itunes next month.

  5. As a boy, Robbie (Robert J.) accompanied his father (Robert B.) to many of the Sherman Brothers’ EPCOT recording sessions, and also the Theme Park’s Grand opening where he first became acquainted with “The Voices” sound.
