The cast of Love Birds: John Guerrasio, Greg Castiglioni, Rafe Watts, Jonny Purchase, Ryan Willis, George Knapper, Anna Stolli, Joanna Sawyer and Ruth Betteridge

Robert J Sherman’s new musical Love Birds follows closely in the Oscar-winning footsteps of his father and uncle (a.k.a the Sherman Brothers), who led the way with Mary Poppins. It’s fantastic, feathery, family fun performed by four penguins, four parrots and a real dinosaur…

We’ve searched high (but not so low, these are birds, after all) to find a fine-feathered to cast to bring these creatures to life at the Edinburgh Fringe. And, we can now reveal, they are: Ruth Betteridge, Greg Castiglioni, John Guerrasio, George Knapper, Jonny Purchase, Joanna Sawyer, Anna Stolli, Rafe Watts and Ryan Willis.

Amongst this colourful plumage of actors, we have several Edinburgh debuts, while one totally talented newcomer – Ryan, who has just finished training at the Performance Preparation Academy in Guildford – marks his professional debut with Love Birds.

Greg Castiglioni, meanwhile, is an old hand when it comes to Sherman family tunes, and working with Robbie Sherman and director Stewart Nicholls. Last year, Greg starred in A Spoonful of Sherman, the cabaret revue narrated by Robbie and directed by Stewart, which celebrates 90 years of Sherman music. As we reported yesterday, the Official Cast Recording CD for A Spoonful of Sherman is released on Monday, the first day of Love Birds rehearsals.
